- ¿Qué cosas te apasionan en la vida?
- Escribir, grabar y tocar música, leer libros, escuchar música y salir con mi esposa, Johanna, y nuestros gatos, Zooey e Iggy.

- Ahora mismo estoy enfocado en las nuevas canciones de GIRAFFES? GIRAFFES!- pero esto no es siempre tan sencillo. Las ideas musicales vienen y se van de las tenebrosas profundidades de mi cerebro, con su propia insistencia. Algunas cosas se usan en el momento, otras se almacenan para mas tarde. Algunas cosas se olvidan... Yo trato de no escribir nada. Me gusta que una idea se defienda por sí sola, y se asegure de que no voy a olvidarla. Esas ideas musicales son manipuladas por Ken y por mí, y se convierten en una canción de Giraffes? Giraffes!. O las manipulamos con Johanna, y creamos canciones para la banda I Am This Big Black Cloud. O las manipulo yo solo, y son canciones que aparecen como canciones de Joseph Andreoli. - ¿Cómo conviven tus diferentes proyectos/trabajos?
- Giraffes? Giraffes! es la prioridad, pero no se pone celoso de que pase tiempo con mis otros proyectos.
- ¿Qué tipo de música escuchás? ¿Cuáles son los géneros que más te atrapan?
- Me gusta mezclar siempre. Las cosas se pueden estancar si perdés mucho tiempo con un GENERO ESPECIFICO, por eso es bueno encontrar cosas nuevas para escuchar. Tratá de ser imparcial, y tratá de escuchar la música solamente con tu corazón y tu cerebro. Escuchala solo. Escuchala con tus amigos. Es divertido ver cómo la música resuena para otras personas. A veces, algo tan simple como un fill de batería bien puesto puede hacer a una canción irresistible, tratá de no olvidarte nunca de eso.
- ¿Cuáles son los últimos discos que escuchaste recientemente y que recomendarías?
- Estoy en una fase muy Smiths de nuevo, que va y viene. Es probable que es porque el otoño está cerca, y se viene haciendo de noche más temprano, entonces me paso más tiempo adentro escuchando discos, y tengo más discos de Smiths que de ninguna otra banda. A pesar de que es un compilado, y no un álbum propiamente dicho, recomiendo Hatful Of Hollow.
- El album de Warren Zebon, Excitable Boy, ha estado sonando bastante. Es un álbum un poco raro, tiene muchas de esas historias horrendas que se esconden detrás de canciones pop con frases pegadizas. Difícilmente puedas notar de que se tratan estas canciones en realidad (Los oscuros principios de la vida, como asesinatos, armas, fantasmas, guerra y disco)
- Y todo de ST. Vincent. Ella es una excelente música/cantautora, con melodías muy pegadizas e inteligentes, es difícil no quedar atrapado en ella. Todo lo que hace es genial, pero si estás buscando solo un disco para conseguir, recomiendo el álbum Actor.

Joe Andreoli is a musician, and he is the guitarist in the band Giraffes? Giraffes!. He is 32, and he was born in Springfield, MA, but he lives in Easthampton now. This week we have this international Chosen section to share with all of you, and we hope you really enjoy reading it as much as we enjoyed writing it.

- What are you working on now? What projects do you have?
-Right now, I’m focusing on new Giraffes? Giraffes! songs- but it’s not always that straightforward- the musicial ideas come in and out of the murky depths of my brain at their own insistence. Some things get used right away, others things get stored for later. Some things are forgotten... I try not to write things down. I like an idea that stands up for itself and makes sure that I won’t forget it. These musical ideas get manipulated by Ken and I and become a Giraffes? Giraffes! song, or get manipulated by Johanna and I and become an I Am This Big Black Cloud song. Or get manipulated only by me and come out as a Joseph Andreoli song. - How do you make your projects live together?
- Giraffes? Giraffes! takes priority, but it isn’t jealous when I spend time working on other things.
- What kind of music do you listen? What are your favorite genres of music?
A like to always keep mixing it up. Things can get stagnant if you hang around too long in ANY genre, so it’s good to find new things to listen to. Try to be unbiased and hear the music clean with your heart and brain. Listen alone. Listen with friends. It’s fun to see how songs resonate with other people. Sometimes something so simple as a well-placed drum fill can make a song irresistable- try not to miss it.
- What are the last three albums you listened to recently and you would recommend?
- I’ve been in a Smiths phase again… it comes and goes. Maybe it’s since the fall is coming and it’s been getting darker earlier so I’m spending more time inside listening to records- and I have more Smiths records than any other band. Even though it’s a collection and not a proper album, I highly recommend Hatful Of Hollow.
Warren Zevon’s album Excitable Boy has been in heavy rotation lately. It’s a weird little album. There are all these interesting and hideous stories hidden in pop songs with catchy hooks. You hardly notice what the songs are really about- the dark tenents of life: murder, guns, phantoms, war, and disco.
And EVERYTHING by St. Vincent. She’s such an excellent musician/songwriter/singer- melodically it’s so catchy and smart, it’s hard not to get hooked. It’s all great, but if you’re looking for only one to grab, get the album Actor.
